The Ballyclare side was formed in the summer of 2004 by Ally Lawrie & Darren Black and enjoyed a roller coaster 1st season in the BB Old Boys League.
The mighty North End then took on the tough decision to join the more competitive Ballymena Junior League and struggled to come to terms with the step up in quality teams they faced; although top hitman of the time Davey Johston did come 2nd in the league Player of the Year awards.
It wasn’t until Allan McCullough took over the managerial reigns towards the end of 2006/07 campaign that the club really went from strength to strength. In his 1st full season as manager, the club had a top 5 finish, scoring an incredible 100 league goals in the process! Ricky Thompson and Billy Nelson shared 65 of there between them, with Thompson going on to scoop the league Player of the Year award that Johnston so narrowly missed out on the season before. McCullough was also voted as runner up Manager of the Year.
Then in November 2009, McCullough stepped down from his role as manager to concentrate on other sports, with his assistant Robin Reilly taking over. Reilly, who had experienced success before as manager of Mossley YM, continued where ‘Magoo’ had left off with the club gaining promotion to the 1st division with a 3rd placed finish secured with just 1 league game remaining.
Unfortunately during the 2010 summer, with vultures circling the North End squad, an incredible 9 players moved to pastures new. The club could easily have went into meltdown at this situation, but amazingly the club fought back. Ally Lawrie was reappointed manager after an inspiring 5-2 friendly victory over Grange Ranagers II’s and by the start of the 2010-11 season, the club had amassed sufficient players to start a Reserve team!
With confidence high at the North End club, Allan McCullough was enticed back to help take the burden off the overworked Ally Lawrie, who then soon decided that McCullough should be made manager. And so it was on 1st October 2010, Magoo returned home to the club he had experienced the most success with, hoping to once again build a team capable of free flowing football that would ultimately challenge for trophies!
